HOMEMADE PIE
By Johnny Dowd
He walked into the café
Dead on his feet
Sat down at the table
Asked for something to eat
Waitress turned around
Looked him dead in the eye
Pointed at the blackboard
It said “homemade pie”
That’ll be just fine
Make it pie ala mode
I’m a traveling salesman
I make my living on the road
I’ve always been a salesman
But salvation is my game
I sell bibles to sinners
And shoes to the lame
You may have heard of me
I’m known far and wide
Ended up in Alabama
Where I was crucified
Shot and crucified
Took a bullet in the head
People made me pay
For all the lying words I said
I asked them for forgiveness
To turn the other cheek
Remember what the bible said
All flesh is weak
This is when they shot me
And nailed me to the cross
On my gravestone an epithet
He aint no great loss
If you are dead why are you here
She asked him with a grin
I don’t waste my time
On traveling sales men
I’m the one who shot you
And hammered in the nails
Get behind me salesman
Take your sorry ass to jail

Silk Scarf
By Johnny Dowd
You don’t love me anymore
You are half way out the door
The only hold I have is guilt
And all the blood we’ve spilt
It isn’t real it isn’t real
Could this be our final meal
I loved Judas like a brother
I loved you more than I loved my mother
A scarf of silf is all that’s left
Folded neatly on the shelf
I see it there and think of you
And all the things we used to do
The final curtain has been dropped
Windows shuttered the doors are locked
Day and night it’s all the same
Could be sunshine , could be rain
I know I know what I did wrong
It can’t be fixed in a song
A world of pain a world of doubt
Nothing left to talk about

Call Me the Wind
By Johnny Dowd
You can call me the wind
I’ll be blowing round your door
I’ll keep coming back for more
-
You can call me the wind
I’ll be creeping through the pines
I’ll be one step over the line
-
It’s all or nothing at all
A brief interlude before the fall
Just a stop along the way
A brief holiday
-
You can call me the wind
I’ve been called much worse
Marriage is a curse
-
You can call me the wind
You can call me day or night
You call me anytime
-
It’s all or nothing at all
A brief interlude before the fall
Just a step along the way
A brief holiday
-
You can call me the wind
You can call me the wind
You can call me the wind

SHACK
By Johnny Dowd
I live all alone in a shack by the lake
My wife left me for the children’s sake
They never visit, I never call
I took their pictures off of my wall
I’ve stolen money from my family and friends
Spent it on women cocaine and gin
I was the cross they had to bear
Now it’s too late to show them I care
Soon I will die alone and forsaken
It’s what I deserve for the path I have taken
The hand I was dealt I should never have played
In the cold, cold ground soon I will lay
Wake up from the dead was the 10th of June
First this I waw was a blood red moon
In a world of gypsies, I will take my place
I’ll walk with the zombies from outer space
